Content Marketing and Storytelling are Critical to Motivating Your Target Market
Time has made the memory fuzzy. I’m about 6-years-old, playing in the surf on the beach at Sanibel Island. My brother and sister are building a sandcastle nearby. My parents are watching as I delight in the waves when I catch a glimpse of something tumbling end-over-end through the seafoam. I lunge forward and scoop up a perfect junonia with its brown reticulated pattern not all that different from a giraffe. I present the seashell to my parents. They beam.
Years later, I asked my mom what lead her to Sanibel Island—a place our family ended up visiting again and again—and she told me that she read about it in a magazine. A few words motivated a family from Boston to visit Florida’s Gulf Coast. Travel editorial and content marketing worked in the 1970s and it works now. It will always work.
While this particular memory is a personal touchstone—made more poignant now that both of my parents are gone—it’s also had a major influence on my business.
Travel Experiences Build Brand Relationships
Experiential travel brings people together. It strengthens the bonds of family. It reinforces friendships. It teaches us about the world and ourselves. A journey may even give us the opportunity to make other human connections that end up being pivotal throughout our lives.
That’s why I use my gifts as an editor and writer to help travel brands tell their stories. My mission is to motivate your audience to use your resources to plan that trip… to call your travel agency their own… to visit your hotel… to book your tour package… to sail aboard your cruise ship… to stay at your vacation rental home… to travel the globe and make happy memories that they will carry for a lifetime.
What Types of Travel Companies Benefit from My Editorial Services?
I collaborate with brands like TripAdvisor, Viator, Fodor’s, Cruise Critic, Conde Nast Traveler, Architectural Digest, Priceline, Oyster, Thomas Cook, Ancestry.com, Barnes & Noble, and others. (Visit my portfolio to learn about some recent travel content projects I’ve managed.)
I help travel companies promote their products and destinations using the written word as the vehicle. I work with travel websites, destinations, convention and visitors bureaus (CVBs), destination marketing organizations (DMOs), associations, travel agents, hotel groups, individual properties, cruise lines, tour companies, villas, vacation rentals, public relations and content management agencies, and other travel providers.
I’m a Traveler, Too
I speak the language of a traveler because I am one. I’ve walked hand-in-hand with a 4-month-old orangutan at the Orangutan Care Center in Kalimantan, Borneo. I’ve experienced the phenomenon of bioluminescence at Mosquito Bay on the island of Vieques. I’ve trailed a pod of orcas from a skiff in Frederick Sound, part of Alaska’s famed Inside Passage. And, I’ve painted a wish on a paper lantern and watched it soar skyward with thousands of other “wishes” during Taiwan’s annual Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival.
Real-World Editorial Experience with Travel Brands
My areas of expertise include—but aren’t limited to—cruise travel, luxury travel, exotic getaways, budget travel, and frequent flyer miles. I’ve sailed aboard dozens of luxury cruise ships and have specific expertise in that area. In fact, I’m the freelance copy editor for Cruise Critic.
Before launching my boutique content creation business in 2015, I spent 24 years as a managing editor and acquisitions editor for New York City-based publishing companies with a special focus on magazines, books, and online content. I worked for, among others, Musician Magazine, Small Business Computing, Music Sales Corporation, and the publishing arm of Barnes & Noble.
I’m an accomplished editorial project manager, content editor, and author. I wrote Getting Married: A Complete Guide to Planning Your Special Day. I also updated a variety of travel guidebooks, including Birnbaum’s Guides to Disneyland and Walt Disney World, Thomas Cook’s Travellers Hawaii, HotSpots Hawaii, Travellers New York City, and the New York City Pocket Guide.
