Cruise Writer
I took my first cruise — a three-week voyage from Whittier, Alaska, to Tokyo, Japan, in 2006. Since then, I’ve sailed with just about every luxury cruise and yacht brand as well as some expedition, premium, and mainstream ships. Throughout the years, I’ve written hundreds of articles about cruise travel. My freelance role as a copy editor for Cruise Critic allows me to keep up-to-date on the industry as a whole.
Luxury Travel Writer
As a luxury travel consumer myself, it made sense to branch into this writing niche. I regularly visit those destinations that grace the covers of magazines like Travel + Leisure. My favorite far-off lands include French Polynesia (especially Huahine), Bali, Guadeloupe’s Iles des Saintes, the Maldives, and Borneo’s Kumai in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. What luxury hotel would I return to again and again? Birkenhead House in Hermanus, South Africa.
Budget Travel Writer
I didn’t focus on budget travel until I heeded the call of the National Education Association. They needed someone to teach their members how to travel without going into hock. Together with the organization’s stakeholders, I helped develop NEA Travel, a monthly news-letter that covers topics that will help anyone explore the world on a tight budget. Additionally, I’m a frequent flyer mile expert and love sharing that knowledge with anyone who’ll listen.
Travel Guidebook Editor
Throughout the years, I’ve used my research and fact-checking skills to update and edit travel guidebooks for New York City- and London-based publishers. Some of those titles include Birnbaum’s Guides to Disneyland and Walt Disney World, Thomas Cook’s Travellers Hawaii, HotSpots Hawaii, Travellers New York City, and the New York City Pocket Guide. I also wrote Disney Weddings: The Ultimate Unofficial Guide to Tying the Knot at Walt Disney World.
